Viva Energy required a contractor capable of executing critical path hotwork and mechanical scope on their RCCU during a major refinery turnaround. The work demanded exceptional safety performance, precise quality control, and the ability to mobilise a large team of specialised pressure welders. Traditional tier-one contractors often bring bureaucracy and inflated costs, while smaller contractors typically lack the technical capability and management systems for such complex work. The challenge was delivering tier-one quality and safety performance without the inefficiencies of major contracting organisations.
MechPro Solutions invested 12 months in detailed pre-project planning, developing comprehensive execution strategies, resource plans, and quality control systems. Our managing directors maintained direct oversight throughout planning and execution phases. We carefully selected approximately 40 specialised pressure welders and trades who could contribute meaningfully to scope delivery. Our approach combined rigorous planning with hands-on leadership, ensuring every aspect of the work was coordinated effectively. We implemented strict safety protocols and quality control measures, with active leadership presence on-site throughout the critical 12-week execution period.
The project was completed safely, on time, and to specification, with zero lost-time injuries across 25,000 man hours. All quality requirements were met, and the critical path schedule was maintained throughout execution. This outcome demonstrated MechPro’s capability to execute major turnaround work taken from tier-one contractors, providing Viva Energy with the technical excellence and safety performance of large contractors combined with the responsiveness and efficiency of a specialist organisation.
