In 2024, Mount Isa Mines required the manufacture, testing and delivery of 14 new convection bank tube bundles for the furnace heat recovery boiler. The individual banks weighed over 12T each and were over 14m long and 6.5m wide. Each convection bundle required the fabrication and welding of four panels of tubes, inlet and outlet headers, non-destructive testing, hardfacing, hydrostatic testing, acid cleaning, nitrogen purging and transport to Mount Isa Mines.
Mechpro Solutions worked closely with the client to plan, build, test and deliver the convection bundles. Mechpro’s outstanding project management team ensured each bundle was delivered on time and of the highest quality. Mechpro devised a detailed schedule, provided monthly progress reports, inspection and test plans and manufacturers data reports. Client representatives were well informed throughout the process and invited to attend key milestone activities such as hydrostatic tests.
